Whether you’re looking for a relaxing dip or a secluded getaway, Krause Hot Springs has something to offer everyone.

Picnic Spot and Pool

From top to bottom, the property provides plenty of fun and enjoyable activities for the whole family. At the topmost level, guests will find a parking lot, the main house, camping spots, and a butterfly garden. Just down about 30 steps is a picnic area with plenty of shady tables beneath large cypress trees. In addition, there is a man-made pool fed by spring water—perfect for those who may want to take a dip but aren’t quite ready for the excitement of the natural pool.

Hot Springs

Of course, the main attraction lies at the bottom level of the springs: a natural pool fed from multiple springs in the area. Large cypress trees shade much of the area, making it perfect for taking a peaceful swim as well as checking out some cool waterfalls or small streams. For those feeling a little brave, there’s even a rope swing that can be reached by swimming across the pool and climbing a rock face.

Krause Hot Springs is a scenic retreat, boasting 32 natural springs nestled in the foothills of Mount Shasta. Their outdoor man-made pool and geothermal lagoon provide visitors with an opportunity to soak in mineral-rich hot spring water, ranging from 70 to 80 degrees in temperature depending on the season. Clothing is required at all times, and bathing suits are mandatory for both day use and overnight guests.

Krause Springs Caves

And if that wasn’t enough adventure already, Krause Springs also offers two caves to explore—one right behind a waterfall and partially submerged so that guests can swim through it.

Krause Springs Water Cave

I discovered that there are actually two different swimming holes at Krause Springs – the one used in the movie and another located right next door. According to a local I spoke with, the exterior shots and in-cave swimming scene in Teeth were filmed at the first hole. But the ledge scene, where the protagonist and her crush make out under the rope swing before they swim into a wet cave and then ascend onto a ledge with a sleeping bag (where the local teens usually do their thing), was shot at the second hole – Hamilton Pool.

Krause Springs Camping

For those looking for more than just a day’s worth of relaxation, Krause Hot Springs offer RV hookups and tent camping sites that provide the perfect background for a weekend getaway. They are, however, not pet-friendly, and all glass items must be left at home. Additionally, no lifeguards are on duty, so swimming must be done at your own risk. The facility also closes temporarily throughout the winter months.

Guests can rest easy knowing that the bathrooms on site come complete with sinks, stalls, and showers, all of which use fresh spring water. With its stunning natural beauty, relaxing atmosphere, and all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay, there’s no doubt that Krause Hot Springs is the perfect place to kick back and let the worries of the world drift away.

Tips and Tricks

Visitors should keep in mind that Krause Spring has no provisions on-site, so they should bring a cooler with drinks and picnic supplies (no glass). It’s usually also advisable to bring along some rafts or tubes for extra relaxation and entertainment. The rocks are slippery and can lead to serious falls if guests don’t take their time, so stay alert when walking around. Finally, parents with children who are novice swimmers may want to stay vigilant when exploring the lower pools just in case.

With words like “Check this out, Mom. It’s so beautiful!” and “I’m totally Indiana Jones!” ringing in the air, it’s no wonder Krause Springs is a huge hit with kids. So next time you’re looking for an outdoor getaway that caters to both adults and children alike, try out this special slice of Texas heaven—you won’t be disappointed.
