There are certain subjects that should be covered within your third-grade homeschool curriculum l before deciding that your child is ready to move on to fourth grade. Math Third Grade Homeschool Curriculum

- Mastery of numbers up to the thousands
- Mastery of both addition and subtraction of numbers up to the thousands
- Have a beginning understanding of how multiplication and division work
- Start memorizing multiplication facts
- Have the ability to use a timeline with both positive and negative numbers on it
- Mastery of estimating and rounding to the nearest number
- Mastery of fractions up to 1/12
- Begin to be able to add and subtract fractions
- Master money and what each coin is worth including dollars

Language Arts 3rd Grade Homeschool Curriculum
In third grade, a child should learn the following Language Arts skills:
- The ability to fluently read third-grade reader books
- The ability to read using an emphasis
- The ability to comprehend information that is given in a story
- Mastery of putting a story’s events into the order that they happened
- The ability to tell you the story’s plot, setting, and characters
- The ability to write simple book reports
- Studying 15 new spelling and vocabulary words per week
- The ability to write a letter and a “thank you” note
- The ability to address an envelope
- Understanding nouns, verbs and adjectives.
- Using correct capitalization and punctuation
- Using a dictionary
- Arranging words in alphabetical order
Science 3rd Grade Homeschool Curriculum
Your third-grade child needs to learn the following things in science:
- Mastery in the collecting and recording of data
- Understanding what a hypothesis, experiment, and conclusion are
- Understanding how force affects motion
- Understanding light’s properties
- Learning the classification system that is used for animals (i.e. mammals, birds, reptiles)
- Investigating animal habitats and behaviors
- Understanding and creating a simple food chain
- Investigating plant life and plant habitats
- Fully grasping natural resources that are provided by the earth
- Researching and creating a model of the sun, moon and stars
- Learning about the planets that make up the solar system
- Recognizing well-known constellations
- Understanding the moon’s cycle and identifying its phases
- Understanding natural disasters (i.e. hurricane’s, tornadoes, earthquakes, floods)
- Beginning to learn about volcanoes and how they are formed
- Understanding the different instruments that are used for measuring the weather (i.e. thermometer, barometer, wind vane, rain gauge)
- Conducting science experiments while using the scientific method
Whenever it comes to social studies, your third-grade child needs to learn:
- Getting a general idea of how the government works
- Understanding a citizen’s role in how the government works
- Investigating and comparing other cultures
- Investigating how your community got started
- Understanding a timeline and adding the events that you are learning about to it
- The ability to use a map and create one of your own
- Identifying and labeling different bodies of water and different types of land
- Researching different cultures and comparing them to your own
- Mastering the concept of goods (i.e. how they are bought and sold)
- Understanding how family functions and what each member’s role is
- Understanding how community functions and what each person’s role is
- Understanding how technology and the invention of machines make life easier today
- Making a model of your town and discussing why each part is important
- Researching your state’s historical landmarks
- Writing a report on your state’s history

There are some websites that you may want to check out, as they will help you with the goals for each of the aforementioned subjects. They include:
- SuperTeachersWorksheets.com has lots of printable worksheets. These worksheets come with answer keys. You will be able to easily see exactly what your child is struggling with here so that you can offer them some extra help in those areas.
- Scholastic.com also has a lot of different subjects that you can utilize both online and printable activities for.
- History.org has a lot of facts and topics. You can easily match this website up with whatever your child is currently working on. There are pages that you can also print out and hang up around your home so that your child can refer to them whenever necessary. Video clips and reenactments are also available to help your children remember particular time periods throughout history.
- BrainPop.com is a paid website but there’s also a free section. You can find lots of stuff for free here so you may never even need to pay for it.
