Sex Over 40 | New Study Says Older Women More Satisfied with Sex

It has been a long-standing belief that women become less interested in sex as the years go by, especially once they reach the age of 40. However, a new study says its results have proven contrary.

The University of California followed 800 women over a 40 year period, tracking aspects of their sex lives from desire to frequency.

The study found that for many of the women sexual satisfaction increased as the women grew older.

Dr. Bat Sheva Marcus, a sexual dysfunction specialist, was not surprised by the results.

“What irritates me is that we, as a society, think sex only lasts until you are 29. After that, it’s just going to be downhill from there,” CBS News Boston reported in an interview with Dr. Marcus.

There are speculations on why older women are now reporting better sex lives–fewer distractions, kids are out of the home, the woman puts herself and her partner as a priority, and women in their prime know when and how to ask for what they want.

“There’s nothing embarrassing about a 65-year-old woman who wants a vibrant sex life,” Dr. Marcus said.
