How to Shop for REAL food Online & Save Money

This week I want to share how I gather some of my whole foods right here in my pajamas at home from my computer – cheaper than I can find it at either local grocery store, Walmart, or Whole Foods.

There are a couple of online stores that I check prices for:

1. Vitacost

I purchase my cold-pressed, extra virgin coconut oil from Vitacost.  This is the cheapest I have found it and I am very happy with the quality. Right now it is on sale even cheaper, by the way! It is $16.99 {regular $21.99} for 54 ounces {That breaks down to .31 per ounce}.  They also carry a lot of herbs, supplements, gluten-free foods, bulk spices, green cleaning products, and tons of other items. Right now if you use this link you’ll get $10 off your purchase of $30.

2. Amazon.com

We are Amazon Prime Members We pay a $79 a year annual membership fee (which comes out to less than $6.60 a month, and in return, we get great perks like:

  • Free 2-day shipping on dozens of our regular purchases and odds and ends, including books, natural health remedies, Himalayan salt, kitchen gear, gelatin, birthday presents, Castile soap, vacuum cleaner bags… you get the idea!
  • Access to Amazon Prime Instant viewing, which gives us free streaming entertainment from your television, laptop, iPad, PC, or your Roku TV box.  We watch unlimited free shows for Prime members, some of which aren’t included in the competing packages for Netflix or Hulu Plus.
  • Free borrows from the Kindle ebook library for Kindle owners.

We’ve actually ditched our Sam’s membership and canceled our Netflix subscription in exchange for AmazonPrime.  We discovered that Amazon Prime Instant Viewing had almost the exact same movies/television shows, so there was no need for both – and this gives us WAY more perks.  So for just about the price for our Netflix subscription we get free 2-day shipping, free movies and television shows, and books!

We use Subscribe & Save.  By signing up for a monthly (or 2, 3, 4, or 6 months) delivery of an item, Amazon will lock in the price offered on the day you order and automatically discount 5% off the final price of that item.  If you have more than 5 items in your next Subscribe & Save shipment, you’ll get a flat 15% off every item in your shipment.  This is on top of the sale price.

I often “subscribe” to the items I need for that month {I always subscribe to 5 items at a time to get a total of 15% off all of them} and then after it ships I cancel them all.   That way they won’t ship again until I subscribe to them again and I can make sure I get the lowest price available.

Pair Amazon Prime with Amazon Mom and the deals stack up!  Amazon Mom adds another 5% savings onto our monthly Subscribe and Save order for a total of 20%!  With 20% off of the items, I order I can often get the items I need for the same price Walmart offers OR cheaper and I can get them delivered right to my door!  {Save me gas money -which is HIGH these days – and time! Money and time are two things we could all use some more of these days!}. You can sign up for Amazon Mom {FOR FREE}.  AND, right now you can save 20% on almost everything baby related because Amazon is having an Amazon Mom appreciation event – just enter BABY0913 at the checkout!
